Off to Guam

It just dawned on me this morning when I woke up that I would be leaving for Guam tomorrow. I actually thought I had one more day. The excitement hasn't begun yet. Maybe it's because I don't know much about Guam so I don't know what to expect. All I know is that it is a US territory and it's near Saipan (another place I don't know about) where one of my friends came from.

Some pictures I took from Google:

So that's where Guam is!Looks just like one of ours don't you think?

And a little info I got from Wikipedia:

Guam is an island in the western Pacific Ocean and is an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States. It is one of five U.S. territories with an established civilian government. The island's capital is Hagåtña (formerly Agana). Guam is the largest and southernmost of the Mariana Islands.

The Chamorros, Guam's indigenous people, first populated the island approximately 4,000 years ago.The island has a long history of European colonialism beginning on March 6, 1521 with the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan and again in 1668, when the first Spanish colony was established following the arrival of settlers including Padre San Vitores, a Catholic missionary. The island was controlled by Spain until 1898, when it was surrendered to the United States as part of the Treaty of Paris following Spanish American War.

As the largest island in Micronesia and the only American-held island in the region before World War II, Guam was captured by the Japanese on December 8, 1941, hours after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and was occupied for two and a half years.

During the occupation, the people of Guam suffered terrible atrocities[citation needed], including torture, beheadings, and rape, and were forced to adopt the Japanese culture, including the change of the island’s name to Ō-miya Jima or Great Shrine Island. Guam was subject to fierce fighting when American troops recaptured the island on July 21, 1944, a date commemorated every year as Liberation Day, in a celebration that lasts all month[citation needed]. Today Guam's economy is supported by its number one industry, tourism, which is primarily comprised of visitors from Japan. Guam’s second largest source of income is the United States military.

Some additional info:
- they speak English and Chamorro
- Ethnic groups: 37.1% Chamorro, 26.3% Filipino, 11.3% Pacific, 6.9% white, 6.3% other Asian, 2.3% other, 9.8% Mixed

I'm happy and lucky that I'll be going on vacation coz God know's I've been wanting/needing/asking for one. But I was hoping it would be somewhere cold. Oh well, we can't have it all now can we? Beggars can't be choosers ;)

Now time to finish that midterm project and pack ASAP~!!!
I will resume blogging when I get back. Won't be back 'til Monday evening. That's November 2, 2009. So don't expect any updates till then. Have a nice long weekend guys!

AlphabeAt

Alphabeat is a Danish pop band from Silkeborg, signed to Polydor label. Their single, "Fascination", was a major hit in Denmark during the summer of 2007 and a significant hit in the UK in 2008. The next single, "10.000 Nights of Thunder" (or just "10,000 Nights" in the UK) saw equal success, and their eponymous debut album went platinum in Denmark, and in the UK, the album has gone gold. It has sold over 100,000 copies, and their 3 top 20 singles have sold in the region of 400,000 all together. -- from Wikipedia

Found out about this really cool Danish band in one of the blogs I read. I've seen 3 of their music videos and they're pretty amazing. I'm really digging their sound. Good music + cool videos = I love! :D You have to see and hear for yourself.

Alphabeat - What Is Happening

Isn't the video just so fun, fresh, cute and clever? Haven't seen a video like it for quite some time now. Last one would probably be Fiest's 1234? And the song, don't you just love the song? :)

Here's another video, Alphabeat - Boyfriend

Love the video of this one too!
I'm really loving them!
Will get their album.
:D

**Ok, so I realized lately I've been kind of off track with what should be the main focus of this blog. Got carried away. Hehe :) Promise I will schedule and have my next shoot SOON. And promise I will finish the rest of the photos (Isa beauty shoot) by next month (or before the year ends). HEHE :D

Redesign

For those of you who follow my blog, I assume you see a change? Yes? Well, I decided to finally redesigned my banner after I conceptualized one. I've been wanting to do so for the longest time but could not think of a new one to replace it with. I hope you guys like the change. It's better right? I think so! :) I just stuck with the previous banner before because I already had it and could not think of a better one. It's actually the same thing that I use for my Multiply account.

Here's the banner I've retired:

Just like with most things, I easily get tired/bored of them after awhile. Take my hair for example, I can't stick to one look for more than 2-3 months. I always get the urge to change it over and over again. And now, I'm deciding to change my hair AGAIN. Hahaha :))

Here are some hairstyles I'm considering:

Or something James Dean-ish, what ya guys think?

Word of the Day: SPIFFY

It's one of my friends birthday today and like any other friend would do, I greeted her (on Facebook since that's the only contact I have of her).

Here's how it went:
Photobucket
The profile picture she is referring to is the picture of me taken during Philippine Fashion Week. The one where I had a spiffy outfit on. It is the very same outfit you see on my new banner :) (Like the new banner?)

And I was like, "What's spiffy? I've never heard of that word before."
But I didn't want to ask her. I didn't want to seem like I've never heard of that word before.
So I immediately went to the very reliable http://dictionary.reference.com/ and searched for it.

Here's the result:
Photobucket
(I took the liberty to edit out the advertisements and etc.)

I was very flattered after I found out what it meant. As you can see, I just couldn't wait to blog about this. Flattered + new word = new post immediately.

Spiffy, Spiffier, Spiffiest, Spiffily, Spiffiness, Spiffying, Spiffied, Spiffies.
These words will now be part of my regular vocabulary.
It's such a fun word don't you think?
Let's make the world a spiffier place!
Learn it, Love it!

Figured it out!

Last August 2009, my friend dropped by my place to help with my homework. While he was going over my work I was taking pictures aimlessly. Then I took pictures of him and tried to figure out how they did those black and white portraits similar to the ones I took below. Did a little trial and error then finally figured it out! :) Want one? Get in touch with me.

Is it just me or when you look at these pictures it reminds you of politics/politicians?

And oh, correction about the terms of agreement regarding blog posting with my friend. It's a minimum of one entry every three days and not just one entry. So the advanced entries I thought I had are not considered advanced anymore. This is for my Tuesday post.

Oh Jacqui!

(Super late post)

One of my requirements last term for my finals for one of my majors was to interview someone in the movie industry whether it be an actress, director, writer, producer, etc. Anyone for as long as they work/ed in the film industry. Then we were asked to write a paper on it. Below is the first paragraph of my paper that will tell you what happened.

Finding someone to interview and confirming a meeting with them for this paper was very stressful. At first, everything was ok, I’m lucky enough to have friends who know people from showbiz. I was set to interview Lotlot de Leon but after finding out that she was out of the country and won’t be back until sometime September (past the deadline), I panicked. I scrambled to find someone else to interview asking all my friends if they knew someone who worked/works in the film industry. A few were able to help me out, the only problem was that the people they knew were too busy or out of the country as well. Luckily, I was able to confirm an interview with Jacquilou Blanco. But even that wasn’t so sure. The meeting was originally set at 10AM last Saturday but was moved to 2PM just a few days before the interview. This got me a little worried, it made me think that she must be very busy and will only have a little time for me. So the interview day comes, I went to the venue an hour early just to be prepared and ready then I receive a text message requesting for a change of venue. By that time, I got even more worried. So I go to the new venue waiting anxiously for her arrival. Many thoughts come to mind about how is she like, is she nice? is she maarte? A few minutes past 2PM then I see her walk in the café dressed very simply. She looked around then sees me; she looks at me with a ‘Is that you?’ expression and a hint of a smile on her face. She approaches the table where I patiently waited. I stood up introduced myself and shook her hand which she reached out to me. In my head I thought, my first thoughts about her were so wrong. Just from that simple hand shake I could tell she was very nice and a very down to earth person. And I was right.

And just so our prof could be sure that we didn't just make up what we wrote he asked that we accompany our paper with any sort of tangible evidence.

L - Here I am with her.
R - And two of my friends (Joan & Janet) who I've asked to come along to accompany me for moral support. They arrived very late though but I still appreciate them coming.

By the time Ms. Jacquilou left, Joan was working her inner fierceness while Janet was being... happy :)

Here is a funny little fiction series I took of Janet:

(Janet waiting for her date)

Janet: What could possibly be taking him so long?

Janet: Did I just get stood up? :(
Photobucket
Janet: NO! NO! NO! I must think positive thoughts! :)

THE END
:)

1st of 2nd

(Super late post)

I did a little documentation of my first day this second term (sy 2009-2010).

Upon entering my first class (which is 8AM by the way), I was greeted by an almost empty classroom.
Photobucket
Paolo was the first one there. He passed the time by watching Glee. Trish came in a little after.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Seeing that we were still few I decided to go to the canteen to grab something to eat.
I had to have breakfast, something I rarely have nowadays. And well, the canteen was just as empty.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
After my one and only class on Monday's, I went to Starbucks to hangout with some friends.
Photobucket
Julz' shades and someone's Cinnamon Roll
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Then I got a little bored. Stayed there for a very long time. So I decided to play with my cam and tried to do some cool effects :)

And that wraps up my 1st of 2nd.

I PASSED HER EXAM!!!

(Super late post, see: last term)

Ok, so here's the deal, Mass Communication (MASSCOM), one of my majors last term, was taught by the (insert positive adjective here) Judy Freya Sibayan. When she teaches this subject she doesn't give a final exam but instead just one really long hard midterm exam. An exam so hard that only a VERY FEW pass. The breakdown of our grade are as follows: 40% recitation, 35% midterm exam, 25% outlines. Last term, only 10% of the 3 sections she was handling passed the exam. Though it does not mean that if you fail the exam you automatically fail the subject. There is still a chance to make up for it by reciting a lot or making good outlines. To my surprise, I was one of the lucky few who actually passed her exam. All that hard work studying paid off! Well... ok, I'll admit, I crammed. But I guess that's how I function(?). I did poorly in the first part but made up for it in the second part. It was a two part exam by the way and we were allotted a meeting and a half to finish it. Below is a little documentation of me as I prepared for my doom.

Prep for Part 1 of the exam:
Power drink to jump start my morning (exam was not until 4:20 PM)

STUDY STUDY STUDY!

Weapon of choice: YELLOW highlighter
Photobucket
Workspace
Photobucket
Time Check: 12:16 PM
Photobucket
Moral support

2 hours and 2o minutes 'til doom

And the result:

Note: We only knew the results of our exam early this term. She handed them out back to us during the first meeting of another subject. All the while, the only thing we knew was that we passed the subject because it is a pre-requisite to the subject we are taking with her now.

Passing is a hundred. I know I could have done better but I'm more than glad to have passed the exam. Not a lot can say they passed her exam. But I can!
